Goals and Dreams

Life is too much like a raft in the ocean and without a clear direction and goal to paddle toward we will surely struggle to get very far in any one direction, or at least we won't recognize if our movement is positive, negative or otherwise. You must, must, must define the direction you would like to move toward. Take time regularly to work on defining your goals and dreams. We all dream a bit but only those who define and redefine their dreams have a clear enough vision to understand what they can do in order to get there. Two of the most procrastinated phases of our life are defining our end goals and starting the journey. Those two steps prevent more people from achieving health, wealth, love and happiness than any other steps. The sad thing is they are usually the least risky and often the simplest.

Jim Rohn talks about setting goals that will change who you are. When talking about the goal to become a millionaire Jim's mentor Earl Shoaff told him "not for the money, but because of who it will make you to achieve such a goal." Mr. Shoaff told him "Once you've achieved it you can give the money away." meaning the money isn't what will make you happy, it's the journey, the character building, the lessons learned, the wisdom, and the joy of accomplishing something great. Set goals that will change who you are. Remember, in order to have more you have to become more.

What the goal is, is less important than the principles and characteristics required to achieve it, which come from within. If you don't possess the proper habits, routines, character, and wisdom needed to get there, then the journey is going to be a blast. It will be earth shattering for you, joy as well as struggle will come from every direction as you learn and grow and become who you need to be in order to have what you want. It's a magnificent idea that becoming is the important part of achieving something great. Once you've become better you can then look back on all the wisdom of your own experience and apply it to future circumstances.
